The second edition of the Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) has kicked off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with world leaders, delegates, and top United Nations officials in attendance. Themed “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” the summit aims to forge a common African position ahead of the COP30 negotiations scheduled for Brazil next year.

Discussions will focus on tapping Africa’s renewable energy potential, showcasing homegrown technology, attracting climate finance, and balancing development priorities with urgent climate action.

The summit builds on the foundation laid by the first edition in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2023, where African leaders adopted the Nairobi Declaration, a roadmap for the continent’s green growth and financing agenda.

Participants at ACS2 will push for stronger commitments to adaptation, climate-resilient infrastructure, and innovative financing mechanisms that don’t burden African economies with unsustainable debt.

The summit is expected to culminate in the Addis Declaration, outlining Africa’s climate priorities and demands to the global community.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Climate Finance: Exploring innovative financing mechanisms and attracting investment for climate projects
  • Renewable Energy: Tapping Africa’s vast renewable energy potential to drive green growth
  • Adaptation and Resilience: Building climate-resilient infrastructure and supporting vulnerable communities
  • African-Led Solutions: Showcasing homegrown technology and innovation in climate action

The summit will bring together leaders from Africa and beyond, including heads of state, policymakers, climate experts, and civil society groups, to catalyze bold financial and political commitments towards a climate-resilient future.
