Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state, effective immediately.
The dissolution was announced by Enobong Uwah, Secretary to the State Government, who cited Section 6 of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023, as the basis for the governor’s decision.
Uwah stated that the governor commends the members of the dissolved boards for their contributions to achieving the promises contained in the ARISE Agenda and wishes them well in their future endeavors.
The chairpersons of the defunct agencies have been asked to hand over government property to the most senior officer in their establishments.
This move is part of the governor’s effort to restructure the state’s executive council, which he had hinted at during the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation in 2024.
The governor expressed appreciation for the commissioners’ dedication to the state’s development and indicated that the dissolution was not unexpected.
The dissolution of the boards and commissions is seen as a major cabinet shake-off, although the reasons behind it are yet to be fully disclosed.
