Former President Goodluck Jonathan has refuted allegations that he accused the late President Muhammadu Buhari of having links with Boko Haram.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Ikechukwu Eze, clarified that Jonathan’s comments were misrepresented.
According to Eze, Jonathan never suggested or implied that Buhari had any connection with the terrorist group or supported it in any way.
The clarification comes amid a heated debate about the Jonathan-Buhari relationship, with many Nigerians still grappling with the implications of Boko Haram’s insurgency, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions.
Jonathan’s denial is likely to calm tensions and reassure Nigerians that their leaders are committed to fighting terrorism.
In his statement, Eze emphasized that Jonathan’s comments were taken out of context and that his administration worked tirelessly to combat Boko Haram.
The former president’s remarks have sparked a mix of reactions, with some Nigerians expressing relief and others calling for further investigation.
