The Presidency has denied reports suggesting that Finance Minister Wale Edun is seriously ill and that President Bola Tinubu is looking to replace him.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Edun is “indisposed” but currently recovering at his Abuja residence under the care of Nigerian doctors. Onanuga clarified that Edun’s condition is not critical, and there are no plans to replace him.
This clarification comes after online reports claimed Edun was bedridden and unable to continue in office, prompting the President to search for his replacement.
Edun’s absence from official duties led to the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, heading Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C.
The Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, will also be part of the delegation.
Edun has been instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s economic and financial plans, and his recovery is seen as crucial to the country’s economic stability.
