A Kenyan police officer stationed at the gate of the president’s official residence in Nairobi was killed in a bow-and-arrow attack by a 56-year-old man who had disguised himself as a homeless person.
The attacker, identified as Kithuka, was detained after the assault, and an investigation is underway to establish the motive behind the attack.
According to police, the suspect approached the gate of State House, where he was ordered to surrender but instead shot Police Constable Ramadhan Matanka in the ribs with an arrow.
The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The attack has raised questions about possible security lapses at the heavily guarded State House.
The National Police Service has condemned the “heinous act” and commended the officers for their swift response, which prevented further harm.
The suspect is expected to appear in court later. PC Matanka’s body is currently in a mortuary, and a post-mortem will be conducted later.
The incident has sparked concerns about security measures at the president’s residence, one of the most heavily guarded locations in the country.
The police are working to determine how the suspect managed to get close to the gate with the bow and arrows.
