Former Bayelsa East Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has formally crossed over to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and lauding his courage to pursue what he described as “painful but necessary reforms” to rebuild Nigeria’s economy.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Wednesday, Murray-Bruce explained that his defection was rooted in his belief in the President’s economic direction and reformist drive. “I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction.
He is not driven by applause; he is driven by results. And today, I can boldly say to you that he is on the right track,” he declared.
The former lawmaker described Tinubu as the first Nigerian President who “truly understands finance” and is transforming the economy “from a political slogan into a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe.”
He hailed the administration’s approach to deregulation, security reforms, and infrastructure development, asserting that the discomfort Nigerians currently face will ultimately serve as a foundation for future prosperity. “The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity,” he said.
Murray-Bruce pointed to the strengthening of national security under the current National Security Adviser, the stabilisation of the naira through professional management at the Central Bank, and renewed investor confidence as signs of progress. “Insecurity is being quietly and systematically dismantled.
