Former Bayelsa Governor and Senator Seriake Dickson has criticized Governor Douye Diri’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Dickson described himself as a “soldier of democracy” who believes in strengthening multiparty politics in Nigeria and warned against the dangers of a one-party state.
He accused some governors, including Diri, of failing to provide leadership within the PDP and contributing to its internal crisis before jumping ship.
Dickson revealed that Diri had consulted him several times before defecting but was not convinced by the reasons presented.
He emphasized that the PDP had given his people opportunities to produce a Vice President, an acting President, and a President of the Federal Republic, which the APC cannot offer.
Dickson stated that if the PDP fails, he will decide collectively with others on the next step, but joining the APC is not an option. He warned that a democracy without opposition becomes a dictatorship.
