Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the widow of Ghana’s longest-serving leader, Jerry John Rawlings, has passed away at the age of 76.
She died after a short illness on Thursday morning, according to Ghanaian presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
As the former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was known for her advocacy work, particularly in empowering women through her organization, the 31st December Women’s Movement.
The movement, named after the date of her husband’s second coup in 1981, aimed to teach women how to earn money and develop their communities.
Her death has sparked an outpouring of tributes on social media, with many paying tribute to her legacy and contributions to Ghanaian society.
Jerry John Rawlings, who led two coups before being elected president twice, passed away five years ago.
