The Federal Government of Nigeria has released ₦32.9 billion under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to strengthen primary health care facilities across Nigeria.
The announcement was made through a statement titled “The Red Letter” by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, describing the initiative as a national call to action for all Nigerians to take ownership of the country’s health system.
According to the Minister, the funds have already been disbursed directly to primary health centres nationwide to improve service delivery, enhance infrastructure, and expand access to essential healthcare.
“This is more than an announcement,” Prof. Pate said. “It is a call to every Nigerian to take responsibility for the health of our communities. These funds belong to you and your people — to strengthen clinics, improve services, and save lives.”

The statement further noted that “The Red Letter” reflects the principles of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing transparency, community participation, and shared responsibility in rebuilding Nigeria’s healthcare system.
The BHCPF, established to ensure sustainable financing for basic health services, channels funds directly to facilities, removing bottlenecks and ensuring accountability in healthcare delivery.

Prof. Pate reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every naira released under the scheme translates into tangible improvements in primary health care, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations.
