Zimbabwe’s Football Association has dismissed head coach Michael Nees following a disappointing run in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the national body confirmed on Wednesday.

The Warriors failed to win any of their 10 qualifying matches, drawing five and losing five, which left them at the bottom of their group. South Africa topped the group, securing their fourth consecutive appearance at the global tournament.

The 58-year-old German, who took charge last year, managed only two victories in 16 games, both coming against Namibia during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Looking ahead, Zimbabwe have been drawn in the first round of the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco alongside Egypt, South Africa, and Angola. The tournament is set to kick off on December 21.
