A 27-year-old woman, Chioma Success Ezebie, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for orchestrating her own kidnapping and collecting a N5 million ransom from her husband.
Chioma allegedly abducted herself and her three-year-old son on October 27, 2025, and had her accomplices call her husband to demand a ransom.
The police launched an investigation, conducting a full-scale cyber analysis and intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of Chioma’s cousin, Osita Godfrey, who was believed to be assisting with information but was later found to be complicit in the crime. Godfrey’s confessional statement led to Chioma’s arrest.
The police recovered the N5 million ransom and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Monday Agbonika, commended the officers for their swift response and warned residents against engaging in acts that could undermine public peace.
