The Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned Omoyele Sowore’s defamation case to December 2, 2025, after he failed to appear for arraignment.
Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly calling President Bola Tinubu a “criminal” on social media platforms.
The DSS counsel urged the court to issue a bench warrant against Sowore, citing his absence as an affront to the court’s sanctity.
However, Justice Muhammed Umar declined the request, noting that the second defendant, X Corporation, had not been properly served with the charge sheet, despite receiving a hearing notice.
The court directed that all parties be duly served and adjourned the case to December 2 for arraignment. Sowore’s lawyer sent a letter requesting an adjournment, which the prosecution described as a distraction.
Meta (Facebook) Inc., through their lawyer, Tayo Oyetibo, supported the prosecution’s request for a bench warrant, alleging that Sowore had accused them of siding with the prosecution.
