A former Zimbabwean MP and opposition leader, 53, was arrested in Pretoria on Friday alongside a 78-year-old man after police found explosives in their vehicle.
The pair face charges of possession of explosives and are set to appear in court on Monday.
Police received a tip-off about the pair driving around Pretoria with 26 blasting cartridges and 15 capped fuse connectors.
The politician, a fierce critic of the ZANU-PF government, was stopped with the explosives in a Ford Fiesta.
