Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking his return to the ruling party after leaving the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

His defection comes two months after his expulsion from the NNPP over allegations of anti-party activities and non-payment of membership dues.

Jibrin, who had remained quiet about his next political move, confirmed the decision on Monday through his verified social media accounts. He revealed that he and his supporters had unanimously resolved to leave the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, pledging full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office,” Jibrin wrote.

The lawmaker also disclosed that about 2,000 Islamic clerics from his constituency offered special prayers for President Tinubu, as well as for peace and progress in Kiru/Bebeji, Kano State, and Nigeria as a whole.

In a video shared from the event, the fourth-term legislator addressed his supporters, explaining that his decision to move with them to the APC was to avoid what he described as a repeat of his past “mistake” of defecting alone.

“I decided to bring this crowd to correct my earlier mistake. I don’t want anyone to say I don’t have supporters,” he said.

Jibrin’s defection further strengthens the APC’s political base in Kano State, where the party has been working to consolidate its influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
