A train traveling from Warri to Itakpe derailed in Adogo community, Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, leaving passengers stranded for several hours.
The Kogi State Police Command responded promptly, evacuating all passengers to the Ajaokuta train station and assisting them to continue their journey without any casualties.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP William Ovye-Aya, stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, visited the derailment site for an on-the-spot assessment and directed additional security personnel to safeguard lives and property.
The police command reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure passenger safety and infrastructure protection.
This incident occurred barely a week after the Nigerian Railway Corporation resumed the Warri-Itakpe Train Service following a previous derailment in Agbor, Delta State.
Two suspected vandals were arrested for tampering with the rail track, and the Senate has constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate the growing frequency of train derailments.
