Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo produced a sensational first-half hat-trick to power AFC Toronto into the maiden Northern Super League (NSL) championship final after a commanding 4-1 victory over Montreal Roses on Monday night.

Played under heavy snowfall at York Lions Stadium, Okoronkwo’s brilliance ensured Toronto cruised to a 6-1 aggregate win, setting up a title clash with Vancouver Rise this weekend.
The 28-year-old Nigerian wasted no time stamping her authority on the semifinal, scoring in the 7th, 20th, and 26th minutes to put the regular-season champions in firm control.
Lauren Rowe added a fourth for Toronto in the 83rd minute, while Tanya Boychuk netted Montreal’s lone goal in the 74th.

Okoronkwo’s red-hot form has been a major storyline throughout the season — she tallied eight goals and eight assists in 1,486 minutes of regular-season action. Her latest heroics drew widespread praise from fans and pundits on social media, with many dubbing her “Africa’s next big star” and recalling her standout performance for Nigeria at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where she scored three times.
Toronto coach Marko Milanović hailed his striker’s big-game mentality after the match. “It was a complete team effort. The work up top from Kaylee Hunter, alongside Esther, was incredible — she even set up that first goal,” he said.

“As for Esther, we know what she’s capable of. She’s a big-time player who delivers when it matters most — we saw it at the WAFCON and again here tonight. Hopefully, we’ll see more of that in the final.”
Toronto had earlier secured a 2-0 first-leg victory in Montreal on November 1, with goals from Small and Hunter. They will now face Vancouver Rise in the NSL Final at BMO Field on Saturday, after Vancouver edged Ottawa 5–4 on penalties following a 3–3 aggregate draw.
The semifinal second leg was originally scheduled for Sunday but was postponed due to heavy snowfall across Toronto.
