Cameroon have suffered a major setback ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs clash against DR Congo, with key players André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting sustaining injuries during training in Morocco.

The Indomitable Lions are set to face DR Congo in the second semi-final on Thursday (today), with the winner progressing to face either Nigeria or Gabon in Sunday’s final.

According to reports, both Anguissa and Choupo-Moting picked up their injuries during an intense training session. While the nature of Anguissa’s injury remains unspecified, it was described as a muscular problem, while Choupo-Moting also suffered a knock during the same session.

Coach Marc Brys, who recently resolved squad announcement controversies, now faces the possibility of being without two of his most experienced players for the must-win encounter.

Team sources confirmed that both players are undergoing medical evaluation to determine the extent of their injuries and their availability for the match.

Cameroon qualified for the playoffs after finishing second in Group D of the qualifiers, four points behind group leaders Cabo Verde. A 0-0 draw against Angola on the final day was enough to seal their spot ahead of Libya.

The four remaining teams — Nigeria, Gabon, DR Congo, and Cameroon — are battling for one final opportunity to represent Africa at the 2026 World Cup, with the playoff winner advancing to the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026.
