A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has strongly condemned the abduction of dozens of students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigeria. Moore expressed deep sorrow over the incident, reiterating the U.S. determination to end alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria and calling for international action.

In a post on his X account, Moore wrote, “Heartbreaking. St Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria was attacked overnight, with more than 50 students and teachers being kidnapped.

Enough is enough. We must do everything we can to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ.” The attack occurred early Friday morning, with reports indicating that over 100 students and teachers were abducted from the mixed school.

This incident follows the abduction of 25 female students from Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Kebbi State, highlighting the escalating security challenges facing Nigeria.

Moore has been vocal about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, citing reports of 7,000 Christians killed in 2025 alone, and has called for Nigeria to be redesignated as a “Country of Particular Concern”.
