Thirty-eight worshippers abducted from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, have regained their freedom after several days of coordinated efforts by security forces and government representatives.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced their release, attributing it to President Bola Tinubu’s “hands-on approach” and direct intervention.
The abductees were freed on Sunday, November 23, following a traumatic incident on November 18, when armed men stormed the church, killing several people, including the pastor, and abducting 38 members.
The kidnappers initially demanded a N100 million ransom per victim, later reducing it to N20 million.
Governor AbdulRazaq thanked President Tinubu for canceling his G20 trip to address the security breach, and acknowledged the efforts of security agencies, including the Office of the National Security Adviser, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, and Nigeria Police.
