Armed bandits attacked Kiri High School in Kogi State, abducting students, but local vigilantes from the Kiri Vigilante Group quickly mobilized and rescued all the students.
The operation came at a tragic cost, with one vigilante killed and a resident reportedly losing his life.
The attack is part of a surge in mass abductions in Nigeria’s north-central region, with over 400 people, mostly schoolchildren, seized since mid-November.
The United Nations has condemned the attacks, urging Nigeria to take measures to halt them and ensure accountability.
