In a transformative initiative addressing Kinshasa’s persistent electricity shortages, Chinese companies, notably Sinohydro, have played a crucial role in constructing the Zongo II Hydroelectric Power Plant in Kinshasa.

With an impressive capacity of 150 megawatts, the power station is poised to supply a quarter of Kinshasa’s electricity, casting a brighter glow across the city’s night sky.

Residents in Kinshasa, particularly those outside the downtown area, once accustomed to nights shrouded in darkness, now experience a positive shift thanks to the concerted efforts of Chinese power engineers and electricians.

The completion of a 220kV high-voltage transmission line facilitates the transfer of energy from Zongo II to the Kinsuka substation, seamlessly integrating it into the national grid.

This newfound power supply not only enhances living conditions but also fuels local businesses, as evidenced by store owner Manual Misiono Roger, who highlights the positive impact on electricity availability.

Representatives of the State Electricity Company of the DRC express satisfaction with ongoing efforts by Chinese engineers and technicians, anticipating continued collaboration to fortify Kinshasa’s power supply.

Kimbuma Angelico, the general manager of Zongo II power plant, expresses optimism about future projects, foreseeing their potential to propel development in the DRC by extending electricity access to a significant portion of the population.

These Chinese-built power facilities stand as beacons of progress, illuminating the path toward a brighter and more electrified future for Kinshasa and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
