Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s latest ambassadorial nominees, describing some as “shocking” and reflective of a leadership that prioritizes mediocrity, corruption, and impunity.
Obi’s criticism comes as Tinubu’s administration faces growing concerns over economic hardship and insecurity in the country.
In a statement, Obi questioned the competence and integrity of some nominees, citing the country’s struggles with poverty, kidnappings, and violence.
He lamented that while citizens suffer, leaders are “busy hosting dinners” and “celebrating and dancing”.
The ambassadorial list includes prominent figures like Reno Omokri, Femi Fani-Kayode, and Mahmood Yakubu, sparking debate about the government’s priorities.
The opposition PDP has also criticized the list, describing it as “scandalous” and reflective of the administration’s values.
Obi’s criticism highlights the perceived disconnect between the country’s political elite and its citizens, who are struggling to make ends meet.
The controversy underscores Nigeria’s ongoing challenges with governance, corruption, and leadership accountability.
