The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved N100 billion, pending President Bola Tinubu’s final ratification, to rehabilitate training institutions for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
This follows an ad hoc committee’s report highlighting the deplorable state of security training facilities nationwide.
The committee, led by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, emphasized the urgent need for intervention, warning that poor training centers undermine the country’s security architecture.
NEC also approved an additional N2.6 billion for consultancy services.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, chairing the meeting, stressed the need for tangible results, urging governors to focus on measurable outcomes rather than rhetoric.
The approval aligns with President Tinubu’s October proposal to overhaul security training schools, aiming to boost law enforcement capacity and professionalism.
