Five students of the Rivers State University (RSU) were abducted by suspected cultists in the early hours of Tuesday in the Rumuche/Rumuohia community of Emohua LGA, Rivers State.

The armed men, numbering about five, stormed an isolated part of the community around 2:30 am, opened fire, and took the students to an unknown location.

The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation and efforts are ongoing to rescue the students.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the scene and directed the area commander, tactical units, and joint task force to intensify efforts to rescue the victims safely and arrest the perpetrators.

The abducted students are from the Emohua satellite campus of RSU, where students had previously protested over repeated cult attacks, urging the school management to relocate them to the main campus in Port Harcourt for safety.
