Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi both found the net on a breathtaking night at Craven Cottage, but their efforts were not enough to stop Fulham from slipping to a 5–4 defeat against Manchester City in a pulsating Premier League showdown on Tuesday.
The nine-goal thriller lifted City to 28 points, narrowing Arsenal’s lead at the top to just two. The Gunners can re-establish a five-point advantage when they face Brentford on Wednesday. Fulham, meanwhile, stay 15th on 17 points after the narrow loss.

City flew out of the blocks, storming into a 3–0 lead courtesy of Erling Haaland (17th minute), Tijjani Reijnders (37th) and Phil Foden (44th). Haaland’s opener carried historic weight, as the Norwegian reached 100 Premier League goals in only 111 games—shattering Alan Shearer’s previous record of 124 appearances.

Emile Smith Rowe reduced the deficit for Fulham in first-half stoppage time, but City regained full control early in the second half when Foden grabbed his second three minutes after the restart. A Sander Berge own goal in the 54th minute stretched the advantage to 5–1.
Iwobi sparked an unexpected Fulham revival with a neat finish moments later, before substitute Chukwueze inspired a dramatic surge. Introduced at halftime, the Super Eagles winger struck twice in the 73rd and 78th minutes to drag the Cottagers back into the contest at 5–4.

Fulham nearly completed one of the most remarkable comebacks of the season, but Josko Gvardiol’s last-ditch goal-line clearance in stoppage time ensured City held on.
Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey also played the full match for Fulham in what became an unforgettable Premier League spectacle.
