A mass shooting at a hostel in Saulsville, Pretoria, has left 11 people dead, including a three-year-old boy, and 14 others wounded.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning when three gunmen stormed the illegal shebeen, opening fire on a group of men drinking there.

The victims include three minors: a three-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl. The motive behind the attack is still unknown, and no arrests have been made.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe stated that the investigation is ongoing, with forensic and ballistics experts examining the scene.

This tragic event highlights South Africa’s ongoing struggle with gun violence and gang-related crimes.

With one of the highest murder rates in the world, the country has seen a surge in mass shootings, particularly in areas with illegal liquor premises.

In fact, between April and September this year, authorities shut down 11,975 unlicensed liquor outlets and arrested over 18,676 people for selling liquor illegally.

The South African Police Service has launched a manhunt for the three suspects, and the community is reeling from the devastating loss.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
