The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has challenged Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to provide evidence supporting his allegations that the group and its security outfit, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), killed 30,000 people in the South-East. IPOB described the claim as “false” and “irresponsible”, and insisted that Senator Kalu must publicly substantiate the claim or apologise.

IPOB accused Senator Kalu of political manipulation, misgovernance, and collusion with criminal elements during his tenure as Abia State governor.

The group alleged that Kalu jeopardised the safety of Abia and Enugu States by ceding the Lokpanta market to criminal elements, contributing to security challenges in the region.

The group maintained that it is a peaceful self-determination organisation operating within domestic and international laws, and that its members are unarmed and nonviolent.

IPOB also defended the Eastern Security Network (ESN), describing its operatives as an organised vigilante structure formed to repel violent attacks by armed groups in rural communities.
