The House of Representatives has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged killing of eight unarmed women, including a 13-year-old girl, during a protest in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, reportedly involving military personnel.
The lawmakers also directed the Chief of Defence Staff to ensure troops exercise maximum restraint and uphold professionalism.
Rep. Kwamoti Laori, who moved the motion, described the incident as “tragic” and a “gross violation of fundamental human rights”.
The House has tasked the Committees on Human Rights, Defence, and Internal Security to conduct a fact-finding mission and report back within two weeks.
The incident has sparked concerns over escalating violence and insecurity in the region, with lawmakers warning that failure to act could worsen communal tensions.
