The 68th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government is underway at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Nigeria.

The summit, chaired by Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, will feature a Special Debate on the Future of the Community, focusing on regional priorities such as political stability, security cooperation, and economic integration.

Key agenda items include discussions on the ECOWAS Community’s future, the 2025 Annual Report on the State of the Community, regional security and mediation efforts, Guinea’s political transition, and the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) review.

The summit is expected to conclude with a final communiqué and a joint press conference.

Regional leaders have arrived in Abuja, with President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana attending the summit.

Earlier this week, the ECOWAS Council of Ministers endorsed Mahama as the sole ECOWAS candidate for the African Union Chairperson position in 2027.
