Morocco began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a comfortable 2–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday night, thanks to second-half goals from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi.
The hosts dominated the opening match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat but were frustrated before the break. Soufiane Rahimi missed a penalty in the 10th minute after Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor made a fine save, allowing the visitors to hold out until halftime.

Morocco eventually broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the restart when Real Madrid midfielder Diaz finished from close range following a cut-back by Noussair Mazraoui. The goal settled the Atlas Lions, who continued to press for a second.
Substitute Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the win with a spectacular overhead kick, converting a cross from Anass Salah-Eddine to spark celebrations among the home supporters on a cold, wet night.

The result extended Morocco’s world-record winning streak to 19 matches and marked a solid start to their Group A campaign. Coach Walid Regragui rested captain Achraf Hakimi, who watched from the bench as he continues to recover from injury.
Comoros, ranked 108th in the world, showed resilience and even created a late chance through Rafiki Said, but they were unable to overturn Morocco’s control of the game.

Morocco will face Mali in their next group match on Friday, while Comoros prepare for their remaining fixtures against Zambia and Mali as the tournament continues.
