A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Federal Government’s request to reopen a terrorism case against five suspects accused of financing and providing material support to the notorious terror leader, Bello Turji.
Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the government’s application to relist the case was meritorious, reviving proceedings that were struck out on July 8 due to the prosecution’s failure to appear in court.
The five defendants—Musa Muhammed Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu, Bashir Abdullahi, Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma—are part of an 11-count charge that also names Turji and two other accomplices who remain at large.
They are accused of supplying terrorists with everything from military uniforms and medical care to a gun truck purchased from Libya for approximately ₦28.5 million.
Arguing for the case’s revival, the government’s counsel cited national security interests and stated the prosecution has witnesses and exhibits ready for a trial on the merits.
While the defense counsel did not object to reopening the case, they requested ₦10 million in costs, noting the defendants had been detained for nine months before the case was initially struck. The case is now set to be heard in January 2026.
