The remains of Libyan army chief General Mohamed Al-Haddad and his advisers are set to be repatriated on Saturday following their deaths in a plane crash near Ankara, Turkey.
The Tripoli government’s top general, four of his aides, and three crew members were killed on Tuesday when the Falcon 50 jet they were on crashed shortly after takeoff.
Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler presided over a ceremony at a nearby air base before the repatriation.
While Turkish authorities have cited a possible electrical failure, the plane’s black box has been recovered, and the official investigation will be conducted by a neutral country, possibly Germany.
In a rare display of unity, both of Libya’s rival governments have declared three days of national mourning for the victims.
