Bandits launched a deadly attack on the Kasuwan Daji market in Niger State’s Borgu Local Government Area on Saturday, killing at least 30 people and abducting an unspecified number of others.
According to reports, the assailants emerged from a nearby national park around 4 p.m. and operated for several hours without resistance, looting foodstuffs and valuables before setting the market on fire.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed that over 30 people lost their lives in the raid, while a local resident suggested the death toll could be as high as 50.
Security forces have visited the scene, and efforts are now underway to rescue the kidnapped victims.
