The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has inaugurated Etigwe Uwa, SAN, as Chairman of the party’s Constitution Review Committee, describing the move as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and uphold the party’s core values.

Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday in Abuja, Mark charged the committee to develop a framework that promotes inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability while remaining faithful to the ADC’s founding ideals.

Mark noted that as the party expands nationally, it has become necessary to review its constitution to reflect current realities, anticipate future challenges, and align with global best practices in democratic party administration.

“This exercise is not about changing principles, but strengthening them. It is aimed at empowering members, promoting unity, resolving disputes fairly, and positioning the ADC as a credible alternative for national leadership,” he said.

The committee is tasked with reviewing provisions on party structures, membership, primaries, congresses, dispute resolution, discipline, and compliance with Nigeria’s electoral laws. It will also consult widely with stakeholders across all geopolitical zones and submit an interim report to the National Working Committee within 30 days.

Responding, Uwa assured of a transparent and inclusive review process, noting that the goal was to produce a constitution that reflects democratic values, attracts new members, and strengthens internal governance.

The ADC, adopted in July 2025 as the coalition platform for opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 elections, has since intensified efforts to strengthen its structures nationwide under the leadership of David Mark and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.
