Ethiopia’s federal police have accused Eritrea of sending ammunition to rebels in the Amhara region, sparking a heated exchange between the two countries.
The police seized 56,000 rounds of ammunition and arrested two suspects, claiming the shipment came from Eritrea’s government.
However, Eritrea’s Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel dismissed the allegation as a “falsehood” aimed at justifying war.
The tensions stem from Ethiopia’s comments on seeking sea access, which Eritrea views as a threat.
The countries have a history of conflict, having fought a border war from 1998-2000 and signing a peace deal in 2018.
