Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who had earlier withdrawn from the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara have reversed their stance and declared renewed support for the process.
The lawmakers made the announcement on Friday during a live broadcast, just days after they had called for dialogue and an amicable resolution to the political crisis in the state.
Their change of position comes amid escalating tensions within the Assembly over the impeachment move against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
Last week, the House, under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule, formally initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy over allegations of gross misconduct. The allegations include the demolition of the Assembly complex and the alleged expenditure of public funds without legislative approval.

Between Monday and Wednesday, the four lawmakers had publicly announced their withdrawal from the impeachment process, stressing the need for reconciliation and political dialogue to resolve the crisis.
However, on Friday, members of the Assembly reaffirmed that the impeachment process would proceed, describing it as constitutional and necessary to address the political impasse in the state.
The development followed the Assembly’s failure to reconvene for plenary on Thursday, a week after adjourning its last sitting, amid speculation of internal disagreements among lawmakers.
With the lawmakers’ latest reversal, the impeachment process appears to have regained momentum within the House, as the political situation in Rivers State continues to unfold.
