Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has criticized the Federal Government for spending $9 million on foreign lobbyists in Washington, describing it as a “painful reminder” of how public funds are used to manage perception abroad while conditions at home deteriorate.
Obi stated that the country’s worsening development crisis is a result of poor leadership choices and prioritization of waste over human wellbeing.
He noted that Nigeria has remained stagnant in the low Human Development Index category for 35 years and now has the lowest life expectancy in the world.
Obi argued that the $9 million could have been used to purchase essential hospital equipment, improving healthcare delivery and Nigeria’s image.
He emphasized that the country’s problem is not a lack of funds, but rather a lack of prioritization, discipline, and effective leadership.
