The Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Simeon Amadi, chief judge of the state, to comply with an interim court injunction restraining the impeachment process against Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers.
The injunction, issued by a Rivers state high court, bars the speaker, clerk, and chief judge from proceeding with any impeachment-related actions.
The lawmakers had accused Fubara of treating the house with contempt and ignoring appeals for resolution, and asked the chief judge to constitute a seven-member panel to probe allegations of gross misconduct.
However, the APC described the move as a “choreographed legislative coup d’état” undermining the party’s collective interest in the state.
The party’s publicity secretary, Darlington Nwauju, warned that the move risks embarrassing the party and threatening its survival in Rivers, and urged the APC national leadership to intervene and avert further crisis.
