Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the early hours of Tuesday following a fire outbreak at a one-storey commercial building in Computer Village, Ikeja area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the fire broke out at about 1:55 a.m., prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa.

In a statement issued on Tuesday morning, the agency said its response team, on arrival at the scene on Somoye Osundairo Street, discovered that the building—occupied by dealers in computers and accessories—had been engulfed by fire.
“Responders observed active flames and thick smoke, indicating intense combustion within the structure. The large quantity of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire,” the statement said.
Although no deaths were recorded, LASEMA noted that some firefighters sustained minor injuries during the operation. The cause of the fire, it added, is yet to be determined and is currently under investigation.
The agency disclosed that the entire upper floor of the building was completely destroyed, with all goods and property stored there lost to the inferno. It also stated that the structure was partially compromised and would require immediate safety assessment.

LASEMA said its officials carried out a risk assessment, cordoned off the affected area and coordinated a multi-agency response involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS and the Nigeria Police Force to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
“Firefighting operations successfully contained the blaze within the affected building, preventing escalation to adjoining structures,” the agency said, adding that damping-down operations were ongoing to prevent a re-ignition.
