Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has pledged to support young Nigerian footballer Grace Boy, who is seeking financial assistance for physiotherapy and rehabilitation following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery.

The appeal was made public on Friday when Grace Boy reached out to the Super Eagles striker via X, requesting help to continue his recovery after undergoing surgery in Nigeria, which he said lacked proper post-operative care.

In his message, Grace Boy expressed concern about the rehabilitation phase of his treatment and his determination to return to competitive football.

“I am calling on your attention sir to seek for your kind support in this difficult time of my career. Having to undergo an ACL surgery in Nigeria without proper follow-up care has been my biggest fear. Please, I am calling on your attention to seek for your support to continue my physiotherapy and rehab sessions, so I can return to playing football again,” he wrote, while also sending well wishes to Boniface, who is recovering from an injury of his own.

In response, Boniface sympathised with the challenges faced by young footballers in Nigeria and revealed that he has often assisted players privately.

“E no easy for young Nigeria player I swear. I know how many players I have helped without people knowing. We go try help you,” the 24-year-old striker replied.

The interaction has drawn attention to the struggles of young Nigerian footballers recovering from injuries, highlighting the importance of support and proper medical care for athletes at all levels.
