Former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai has alleged that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday.

El-Rufai claimed he was approached by DSS operatives who wanted him to accompany them without a formal invitation, which he refused.

In an interview, el-Rufai expressed fear of tyranny and undemocratic practices, stating he is entitled to a letter of invitation as a Nigerian.

He linked the incident to his ongoing disputes with the ICPC, which has charged two of his associates with alleged fraud and money laundering.

El-Rufai’s media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, alleged that around 50 security operatives were at the airport, targeting the former governor.

The incident has sparked concerns about the use of security agencies for political purposes.

The ICPC has not publicly commented on the allegations. El-Rufai’s case highlights the tensions between anti-corruption agencies and public figures in Nigeria.
