Ian von Memerty, a renowned South African television personality, has passed away at the age of 61.
The former host of Strictly Come Dancing South Africa and judge on SA’s Got Talent had been documenting his plans to end his life on a 15-part Facebook series, citing fears of aging, financial dependence, and physical decline.
His family announced his death, stating they had done everything to love and respect him on his journey.
Von Memerty, born in Zimbabwe, had a distinguished career in theatre and television, winning 15 national theatre awards and hosting several popular shows. He had also worked as a pet sitter and performed on cruise ships.
His decision to end his life has sparked debate, with some supporting his right to choose and others criticizing him for sharing his plans publicly.
