Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been cleared of match-fixing allegations by his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars, ending a three-month suspension, .
Obasogie was suspended on February 27 after fans, management, and stakeholders raised concerns over a series of errors in matches against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup and Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.
However, a statement from the club, signed by CEO Jonathan Kassano, confirmed that an internal disciplinary investigation found “no evidence of match-fixing or gambling.” The errors that triggered suspicion were deemed technical mistakes. The club also noted that Obasogie had apologised and pledged to improve his performance.
The suspension has now been lifted, allowing Obasogie to resume training and match duties.
In a Facebook video, Obasogie expressed gratitude to those who supported him, including the Nigeria Football Federation, Philip Shaibu, Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, Bendel Insurance, his family, the media, and Singida Black Stars for their fair investigation.
“I am so happy everything against the allegation has been resolved. Thank you to everyone who stood by me, wished me well, and prayed for me. I am really happy and grateful,” he said.
Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Fasil Kenema in Ethiopia and has been a regular in the Super Eagles camp. He was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, serving as third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.
He becomes the second Nigerian goalkeeper recently caught in match-fixing controversies, following Maduka Okoye, who received a two-month suspension in Italy in 2025 over a betting scandal.
