Ghana is urging the Commonwealth to condemn the missile attack on its United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, which injured four soldiers.
Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described the bombing as “an attack on every principle that the UN Charter exists to defend” during a Commonwealth meeting in London.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, has prompted Ghana to formally lodge a protest with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who has stated that “those responsible must be held accountable”.
The injured soldiers, serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), are now in stable condition, with three having minor injuries and one critically injured soldier successfully undergoing surgery.
Ghana has been a long-standing contributor to UN peacekeeping operations in Lebanon, with over 600 soldiers currently serving.
