Guinea’s main opposition leader, Cellou Dalein Diallo, has urged “direct resistance” to President Mamady Doumbouya’s government after authorities dissolved 40 political parties, including Diallo’s Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea and the Rally of the People of Guinea.

The move, announced on Friday, accuses parties of non-compliance with legal requirements. Diallo, in exile, claims the decree declares “war” on opposition forces.

The dissolution comes ahead of legislative elections, consolidating Doumbouya’s power.

Critics, like Jean-Marc Telliano, vow to fight for their rights.

Similar moves have occurred in Burkina Faso, where authorities banned all parties. Doumbouya, who seized power in 2021, has been accused of suppressing democratic freedoms.
