Madagascar’s President Michael Randrianirina has dismissed his prime minister and entire cabinet, citing unspecified reasons.
Randrianirina, who seized power in October 2025 following youth-led protests that ousted his predecessor Andry Rajoelina, will appoint a new prime minister soon, following constitutional procedures.
The move comes after Randrianirina’s takeover, which was sparked by widespread protests over water and electricity shortages, as well as allegations of corruption.
The African Union has condemned the military seizure of power, suspending Madagascar from its bodies and demanding a return to constitutional order.
