Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has celebrated mothers across Nigeria and around the world, praising their resilience, sacrifices and contributions to society.

In a message marking the 2026 Mother’s Day celebration, she described mothers as the silent architects of the nation’s future and the heartbeat of every home. According to her, the love, care and sacrifices made by mothers remain invaluable to the growth of families and the nation.

“Today, I honour and celebrate every mother across Nigeria. Your love, care and sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” she said.

The First Lady noted that beyond the major sacrifices mothers make, it is often the small, quiet moments that truly reflect the depth of a mother’s love. “On this special day, we carry those moments in our hearts and say thank you for the warmth and love you selflessly give,” she added.

She further described mothers who nurture and guide their families as heroes whose influence helps shape the nation’s future. Tinubu also urged mothers to continue playing their vital role in raising and guiding their children with wisdom and strength for the benefit of future generations.

“I implore our mothers to continue to teach and guide the children, passing down wisdom and strength that will benefit future generations,” she said. She prayed that mothers would live long to witness the fruits of their labour through their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mother’s Day is observed in many countries around the world to honour mothers, motherhood and the vital role women play in families and society. The celebration is held on different dates globally, most commonly in March or May.
