A viral screenshot claiming US President Donald Trump criticized President Bola Tinubu over the Maiduguri bombings has been debunked as fake.
The alleged tweet said, “The situation in Nigeria is a TOTAL DISASTER… While his country is in a state of NATIONAL EMERGENCY, President Tinubu is currently in the UK on a ‘State Visit’.” However, investigations show no evidence of such a statement from Trump.

The Maiduguri bombings, which killed 23 people and injured over 100, occurred on March 16, 2026, targeting crowded areas like the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and Monday Market.
President Tinubu has directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, vowing decisive action against terrorists.
He described the incidents as “deeply upsetting” and said they reflect desperate attempts by terrorist groups under sustained pressure from Nigerian forces.
Tinubu commended Nigerian troops and civilian task forces for repelling coordinated assaults on military formations in the state.
The attacks are believed to be linked to Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa Province, which have carried out similar assaults in Nigeria’s northeast.
The government has assured residents that security agencies are on top of the situation and urged calm.
