Nicholas “Fink” Haysom, a renowned South African lawyer and international diplomat, has passed away at the age of 73.
Haysom, who served as a key advisor to Nelson Mandela during South Africa’s transition to democracy, dedicated his life to promoting justice, dialogue, and reconciliation globally.
As a prominent figure in the United Nations, Haysom held various roles, including Special Adviser for Southern Africa and South Sudan, and head of UN missions in Somalia and Afghanistan.
His commitment to human rights and peace-making earned him recognition from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Haysom’s legacy extends beyond his diplomatic work, inspiring generations with his passion for justice and democracy. He is survived by his wife, five children, and two sisters.
