The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant breakthroughs in combating drug trafficking, intercepting large consignments of opioids, cannabis, and methamphetamine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, and a courier firm in Lagos.
Two suspects bound for Italy were arrested, with one attempting to smuggle tramadol pills in skin-lightening cream containers and another hiding opioids in winter jackets.
The agency also recovered over half a million pills of tramadol and other opioids along the Kaduna-Zaria highway, arrested suspects with skunk in Kano and Edo states, and seized codeine-based syrup in Lagos. In Adamawa, six individuals were arrested for an 82.8kg tramadol shipment.
NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers for their efforts and emphasized the need for a balanced strategy combining enforcement and public education.
